ANOTHER WIN FOR SCOLES
Almost looks like New Zealand
Round 1, Italian Cup, Scopello

After spending the last couple of weeks in Doganaccia, Italy doing some riding/fishing/1980's moto riding with fellow kiwi George Brannigan and Ausy Rhys Willimse (Ancilotti team) , It was off up to the North of Italy for the first round of the Italian national series in a place called Scopello.

Surprisingly the track ended up being one of the sickest tracks I have been to this season! It had a bit of everything, up the top was fast then into the trees with some tech off cambers, drops and rock gardens then it went into some high speed rough sections in the open then back into the trees for some more off cambers rocks and a couple of jumps and the rain the day before mad it all a bit more interesting.

By the end of practice on Saturday I still felt pretty average but had some different lines that I was pretty happy with, but the on and off rain and the loamy dirt meant the track was getting pretty cut up and it was pretty easy to hit a rock or a root and get a big old swap on.

Sunday, race day soon rolled around and the rain had stayed away all night but it was still a bit nippy, I headed up for a couple of practice runs and I was finally starting to feel ok on the track although I hadn"t really done a fast run as there was a lot of traffic on the track.

First up was a seeding run then into the race run, for seeding I decided to just have a cruisy/clean run, but ended up missing a high line and going over the bars, so I ended up around 10th and 20seconds off my team mate Marco Milivinti who posted the fasted seeding time, a 4.07 and Lorenzo Suding in 2nd on a 4.09.

After my seeding run I knew I had to have a pretty good run to make up 20 seconds! For race run I decided to pin it on the sections of the track I knew I could ride fast and back it off a bit in the sections that were a bit loose. It seemed to work as I came down on a 4.01. Not long after me came Frenchy Julian Camillini who posted a 4.07 and took 2nd place and the two top seeds Marco Milivinti and Lorenzo Suding both had problems in their runs, Lorenzo crashed out and Milivinti a flat tire, so I ended up taking the win with Camilini in 2nd and George Brannigan in 3rd.

Now its off to Fort William for the 2nd World Cup, so hopefully I can put it all together and get a good result!
Matt on has way to has second win in Italy this season
