Architecture is a constant source of inspiration for Chapter2 co-founder and chief designer Mike Pryde. His formative years in Architectural design included stints at both Foster + Partners and Aedas, who are amongst the most respected visionaries in the profession. Whilst he pivoted to designing high-performance carbon bikes over 13 years ago, his love for purity in design remains from his days in Architecture.

Inspired by a minimalist approach to Architectural Design where the materials used are laid bare to the naked eye to form the unique C2 silhouette, we’re pleased to present the TOA Origin Series. Only 58 units will be produced, each one uniquely numbered to signify its rarity.

Each frameset is accompanied by a beautifully designed booklet illustrating architectural masterpieces that continue to inspire C2’s design ethos. Each frame also comes with a credit card-sized stainless steel certificate so that you can proudly carry the Origin Series emblem with you, even when you’re off the bike.

ABOUT THE FRAME 

After two and a half years in development, with every detail carefully considered and meticulously executed, the Toa is the culmination of all the Chapter2 frames that have come before it. Toa, which means “to be victorious, to win” in te reo Māori, delivers an all-out, no-compromise carbon fibre race-ready frame platform. It has been designed, engineered and manufactured to the most exacting standards.

Inspired by the Tere’s Performance All-Road DNA and the Ao's versatility, the Toa has all its cables/hoses tucked away from sight and the wind, creating an aerodynamically seamless transition between the Mana Bar and the Toa's Kamm-Tail chassis.

Sporting a T47 Bottom Bracket for easy maintenance, the aluminium BB Shell works in unison with the high-tensile carbon carefully laid into the BB area to increase stiffness by up to 8% over the Tere. Additionally, the use of a Latex mandrel for the whole front triangle has increased the Headtube stiffness by 34% over the Tere for that out of the saddle and power to the pedals moment.

Other enhancements, such as the Mana Bar, Quick-Fit headset spacers, up to 32mm of tire clearance, and vibration dampening seatstays and seatpost make for a package that ticks all the right boxes.

CHAPTER2 bikes use Japanese-made Toray® carbon fibre exclusively and have all been fully tested at Auckland University’s Wind Tunnel, the same facility where Emirates Team NZ (America’s Cup) does their testing.
